If you can remember the year 1971, you'll already know the source
of the name D.B. Cooper. On Thanksgiving (U.S.), a man using the name
Dan Cooper skyjacked a Boeing 737 over Washington and Oregon claiming
to have a bomb in his suitcase and parachuted into history with $200,000
in ransom. He was never found, and to this date, the case remains unsolved...
the F.B.I.'s equivalent to Captain Ahab's white whale. A suspect named
Daniel B. Cooper was apprehended and later released, but his initial "B"
stuck in the media.
You may also notice the lower-case "d"; those in-the-know
will recognize the symbol "dB" as representing "decibels"
- a standard for measuring sound volume. The combination of the 70's reference
with this measurement of loudness comprises the classic rock & roll
spirit of the band dB Cooper.
